Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – June 7, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily fishing report for Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to tell you what’s bitin’ and what ain’t.

Lake Level and Water Conditions

As of today, June 7, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s elevation is at 11.17 feet NGVD. That’s about 1.5 feet lower than this time last year (12.67 feet) and a good 2.83 feet lower than two years ago (14.00 feet). We’re sitting almost 2 feet below the Period of Record Average. Keep an eye on those navigation depths, Route 1 is sittin’ at about 5.11′ and Route 2 is about 3.31′.

Weather Impact on Fishing

The weather forecast for tomorrow, June 8th, calls for rain. About 1.68mm, which is about 0.07 inches. The wind will be blowin’ from the southeast (around 150 degrees) at about 12 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph. Temperatures will be warm, with daytime highs around 92°F (33.28°C) and nighttime lows around 79°F (26.27°C).

Fishing Forecast

With the lake level being lower than usual and the forecast calling for rain and wind, here’s how I see it affecting the fish:

Bass Fishing

The lower water levels concentrate the bass, but it also makes them a bit more wary. The incoming rain could stir things up and trigger a bite, especially in areas with submerged vegetation. Focus on the Kissimmee River and near the grass lines. Use dark-colored lures like black and blue jigs or worms to help the bass see them in the stained water from the rain. Topwater baits early in the morning before the wind picks up could also be productive.

Crappie Fishing (Speckled Perch)

Crappie will likely be holding around deeper structures and submerged brush piles. With the wind, drifting with jigs or minnows can be tough, so try anchoring up and fishing vertically. Look for cleaner water if possible, as the rain can muddy things up.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill should still be bedding in the shallows, especially in areas protected from the wind. Look for them near lily pads and reeds. Crickets and worms are always a good bet. The rain might make them a little less active, but they’ll still be around.

Inflows and Outflows

Total Inflows: 774 cfs

Total Outflows: -237 cfs

That’s all for today’s report. Remember to check back on Monday for the full weekly report. Tight lines and safe fishin’!
