Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – June 2nd, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’ve seen it all. Let’s get right to it.

Lake Level and Water Conditions

As of today, June 2nd, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is sitting at 11.01 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from last year (12.86 feet) and two years ago (13.94 feet). We’re also sitting a little below the period of record average. The lake level has risen slightly in the past few days, but is still down from a month ago.

With the current lake level, navigation depths are approximately 4.95 feet on Route 1 and 3.15 feet on Route 2. Be mindful of your boat’s draft and navigate carefully, especially in areas you’re not familiar with.

Weather Impact on Fishing

The weather forecast for today, June 3rd, calls for rain. We’re looking at about 0.24 inches of rain. The wind will be blowing from the southeast at around 12.6 mph, with gusts up to 15.2 mph. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s, with a low around 71°F and a high around 77°F.

This weather pattern will impact the fishing in a few ways:

Bass Fishing

The rain and wind can stir up the water, potentially making it a bit tougher to fish clear water areas. Look for bass to be holding tighter to cover, like grass lines and lily pads. Topwater baits early in the morning before the rain really picks up could be productive. As the day goes on, switch to flipping jigs or using Texas-rigged worms around heavy cover. The slightly cooler temperatures from the rain might encourage some activity.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie might be a bit more scattered with the weather change. Try fishing around submerged structure and bridge pilings. Minnows and small jigs are always a good bet. The wind could make boat control a little tricky, so consider using a trolling motor or drift sock to maintain your position.

Catfish Fishing

Catfish tend to do well in rainy conditions. The increased runoff can wash more food into the lake, attracting catfish to areas near inflows. Use stink baits, cut bait, or live bait fished on the bottom. Focus on areas near creek mouths and canals.

Inflows and Outflows

Total inflows to the lake are at 1938 cfs, with the S65E and S84 structures contributing the most. Total outflows are at -14 cfs. Keep an eye on these numbers, as they can influence water levels and fishing conditions in different areas of the lake.

Captain Joe’s Tip of the Day

With the rain coming in, don’t be afraid to try some noisier baits to help the fish find your lure in the murkier water. A rattling crankbait or a spinnerbait can be just the ticket to get their attention.

That’s all for today’s report, folks. Tight lines and stay safe out there!
