Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – May 24, 2025 – Captain Joe

Report Date: May 24, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing update. Let’s get right to it – the Big O is callin’!

Lake Okeechobee Level

As of today, May 24, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is at 10.90 feet.

That’s down a bit from yesterday (10.93 feet) and significantly lower than this time last year (13.25 feet) and two years ago (13.80 feet). We’re about 2.26 feet below the historical average for this time of year. Keep an eye on those levels, folks, as they can impact where the fish are holdin’.

Weather Outlook

The weather forecast for today, May 25th, calls for a chance of light rain. Winds will be coming from the East (around 7 mph), with gusts up to about 9 mph. The high for today will be around 89 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 74 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fishing Tips for Today

Bass Fishing

With the lake level lower than usual, focus on areas with submerged vegetation and near any remaining Kissimmee grass. The light rain might encourage some topwater action early in the morning. Try using weedless frogs or swimbaits around the grass. As the day warms up, switch to flipping jigs or Texas-rigged worms in the thicker cover. Look for those transition areas where the bottom changes – bass love to hang out there.

Key Baits: Weedless frogs, swimbaits, jigs, Texas-rigged worms

Crappie Fishing

Crappie will likely be holding around deeper structure and submerged brush piles. Minnows and jigs are your best bet. With the wind, drifting can be effective, but be sure to control your speed. Early morning and late afternoon will be your prime times.

Key Baits: Minnows, jigs

Catfish Fishing

Catfishin’ should be pretty good, especially after that little bit of rain. Use live or cut bait near the bottom in deeper channels and around any submerged structure. Stink baits can also be effective. Fish the flats at night for the best results.

Key Baits: Live bait, cut bait, stink bait

That’s all for today’s report, folks. Remember to check back often for the latest updates, and tight lines out there!
