Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 13, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for today, April 13, 2025. The lake level is currently at 12.15 feet NGVD, which is about 1.90 feet below the historical average for this time of year. Compared to last year on this date, the lake is a whopping 2.80 feet lower, and 2.05 feet lower than two years ago. This lower water level is definitely something to keep in mind as you plan your fishing trip.

Weather Forecast and Impact on Fishing

The weather forecast for today calls for clear skies with light winds. This should make for a pleasant day out on the water. The clear skies and bright sunshine will likely push the fish to seek cover in deeper water or around vegetation.

Bass Fishing

With the lower water levels and clear conditions, bass fishing might be a bit challenging today. Focus your efforts on areas with remaining vegetation, such as Kissimmee grass or hydrilla. Flipping and pitching creature baits or using spinnerbaits around these areas could entice some bites. Early morning and late afternoon will likely be the most productive times to fish.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie fishing should be decent today. Look for them around deeper brush piles or submerged structures. Using live minnows or small jigs tipped with minnows is a good strategy. The clearer water might make them a bit spooky, so a stealthy approach is recommended.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill fishing should be steady today. Target them in shallower areas with some vegetation or around docks and piers. Crickets, redworms, or small beetle spins are all effective baits. With the clear water, you might need to use lighter line and a smaller hook to fool them.
