* On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used
     as the Lake Okeechobee Elevation.
On 05 November 2010, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level.
On 09 May 2011, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
of the lake level due to isolation of S135 from low lake levels.
Today Lake Okechobee elevation is determined from the 4 Int & 4 Edge stations

Weather Forecast and Fishing Outlook

Looks like we’ve got some weather moving in. The forecast calls for rain, about 0.33 inches, with winds out of the East at around 9 mph, gusting up to 16 mph. The temperature will be around 80 degrees.

How This Affects Fishing on Lake Okeechobee

Bass Fishing: The rain could stir things up a bit, potentially moving baitfish and triggering some feeding activity. Focus on areas with moving water, like canals and cuts. With the wind, the east side of the lake will be more protected.

Crappie Fishing: Crappie tend to seek shelter during heavy rain and wind. Try fishing near structure like submerged trees or bridge pilings. Minnows and jigs are always a good bet.

Bluegill and Shellcracker: These panfish will likely be tucked in close to the reeds and vegetation. Crickets and worms fished under a float should do the trick.

Remember to adjust your tactics based on the specific conditions you find out on the water. Stay safe out there, and tight lines!

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report: Water Levels, Weather, and What’s Biting! (September 15, 2025)

Howdy, folks! Captain Joe here, your guide to all things fishy on Lake Okeechobee. Let’s dive right into what’s happening on the Big O. Hold on to your hats, because the water’s doin’ some dancin’!

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels: A Tad Bit Lower Than We Like

As of September 14, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level sits at 12.98 feet (NGVD). Now, that’s a far cry from the 14.88 feet we saw this time last year (September 14, 2024) and even further from the 15.36 feet from two years ago (September 14, 2023). That’s almost 2 feet lower than last year, and over 2 feet lower than 2 years ago! Sheesh! The historical average for this time of year is 14.54 feet, so we’re sitting about 1.56 feet below that.

What does this mean for you, the dedicated angler? Well, lower water levels can concentrate the fish in certain areas, making them easier to target… or harder, depending on how they’re feelin’ that day. The lake is determined from the 4 Interior and 4 Edge stations. Navigation depths are Route 1: 6.92′ and Route 2: 5.12′.

Inflows and Outflows: Where’s the Water Goin’?

Currently, inflows are outweighing outflows. We’re seeing a total inflow of 6191 cfs (cubic feet per second), with the S65E structure contributing a whopping 4492 cfs and Fisheating Creek adding 1094 cfs. Outflows are a measly 37 cfs, with the S135 Culverts releasing 144 cfs, but the L8 Canal Pt is taking out -107 cfs. That means the lake is gaining water, albeit slowly. The Lake Okeechobee (Change in Storage) Flow is 7865 cfs or 15600 AC-FT.

Weather Forecast: Rain, Rain, Go Away… Or Maybe Stay?

Looks like we’re in for a wet week, folks. Here’s the forecast:

September 15, 2025: Light rain, winds from the east (70 degrees) at 4.77 m/s (10.7 mph), gusting to 8.21 m/s (18.4 mph). Temps between 22.66°C (72.8°F) and 31.23°C (88.2°F).

September 16, 2025: Light rain, winds from the east (72 degrees) at 5.08 m/s (11.4 mph), gusting to 8.24 m/s (18.5 mph). Temps between 22.86°C (73.1°F) and 31.65°C (89.0°F).

September 17, 2025: Moderate rain, winds from the east-northeast (93 degrees) at 4.07 m/s (9.1 mph), gusting to 8.12 m/s (18.2 mph). Temps between 23.56°C (74.4°F) and 28.1°C (82.6°F).

September 18, 2025: Heavy intensity rain, winds from the east-southeast (52 degrees) at 5.44 m/s (12.2 mph), gusting to 10.25 m/s (22.9 mph). Temps between 22.09°C (71.8°F) and 23.68°C (74.6°F).

September 19, 2025: Moderate rain, winds from the north-northeast (27 degrees) at 3.89 m/s (8.7 mph), gusting to 7.51 m/s (16.8 mph). Temps between 21.62°C (70.9°F) and 29.67°C (85.4°F).

September 21, 2025: Moderate rain, winds from the east-northeast (91 degrees) at 2.48 m/s (5.5 mph), gusting to 3.81 m/s (8.5 mph). Temps between 23.61°C (74.5°F) and 30.22°C (86.4°F).

September 22, 2025: Light rain, winds from the south-southeast (175 degrees) at 3.21 m/s (7.2 mph), gusting to 3.69 m/s (8.3 mph). Temps between 24.61°C (76.3°F) and 30.76°C (87.4°F).

All this rain could muddy up the water a bit, but it also brings in fresh water and can trigger some good feeding activity. Just be prepared for some potentially slick conditions on the boat ramp, and keep an eye on those afternoon thunderstorms!

Fishing Forecast: What’s Biting on Lake Okeechobee?

With the lower water levels and the incoming rain, here’s what I’d recommend targeting:

Bass: Look for bass around the Kissimmee grass and lily pads, especially after a good rain. They’ll be ambush predators, waiting for baitfish to get washed out of cover. Topwater frogs and swimbaits could be your best bet.

Crappie: The crappie might be a little scattered, but try fishing around submerged structure in the deeper parts of the lake. Minnows and jigs are always a good choice.

Bluegill/Shellcracker: These panfish will be hanging around the edges of the vegetation, looking for a meal. Crickets and worms under a bobber are classic and effective.

Remember, folks, fishing is fishing. Some days they bite, some days they don’t. But with a little knowledge and a whole lot of patience, you can always have a good time on Lake Okeechobee. Tight lines and happy fishin’!

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – September 13, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of Lake Okeechobee fishing wisdom. Been fishin’ and huntin’ these parts for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to tell you what’s what on the Big O.

Lake Level and Weather Update

The lake level is currently at 12.94 feet. That’s down from last year’s 14.83 feet and even further from the year before at 15.37 feet. We’re about 1.58 feet below the period of record average. Keep an eye on these levels, folks, as they directly impact where the fish are holdin’ up.

The weather forecast for today is clear skies with a light breeze. We’re looking at winds around 10 mph (4.54 m/s) coming from the east-northeast (28 degrees), with gusts up to 19 mph (8.59 m/s). Temperatures will be warm, with a high around 89°F (31.7°C) and a low around 77°F (25.26°C).

Fishing Outlook

With the lake level a bit lower than usual and clear skies overhead, here’s how I reckon the fishin’ will be:

Bass Fishing

The lower water levels might concentrate the bass around remaining vegetation and structure. Focus on areas with hydrilla, Kissimmee grass, and submerged logs. Topwater baits early in the morning could be productive, especially with those light winds. As the sun gets higher, switch to flipping jigs and worms around heavy cover. Look for bass to be holding in slightly deeper water near the edges of the vegetation.

Key Areas: Look to the North Shore around Harney Pond and Indian Prairie.

Top Baits: Topwater lures, Jigs, Worms

Crappie Fishing (Speckled Perch)

Crappie will likely be holding around deeper structures and submerged brush piles. Minnows and jigs are your best bet. With the clear skies, they might be a little more skittish, so try using lighter line. Focus on areas with submerged trees and deeper channels.

Key Areas: Look to the South end of the lake around Clewiston and Belle Glade.

Top Baits: Minnows, Jigs

Bluegill and Shellcracker

These panfish should be active around lily pads and shallow vegetation. Crickets and worms fished under a bobber are always a good choice. The clear weather should make it easier to spot their beds in the shallows.

Key Areas: Look to the West side of the lake around Okeechobee City.

Top Baits: Crickets, Worms

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – September 12, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on and around our beloved Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to share what I’m seeing.

Lake Okeechobee Levels & Flow

As of today, September 12, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s elevation is at 12.90 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from yesterday’s 12.85 feet. We’re still below the historical average for this time of year, sitting about 1.59 feet below the period of record average. Last year at this time, the lake was at 14.78 feet, so we’re significantly lower this year.

Total inflows are at 8039 cfs, with the S65E contributing a good chunk at 4722 cfs. Outflows are minimal at 120 cfs. The lake is changing in storage by 9579 cfs.

Weather Outlook & Fishing Impact

The weather forecast for today, September 13th, calls for light rain. We’re expecting about 2.16mm of rain (that’s roughly 0.085 inches) with winds around 3.69 meters/second (about 8.25 mph) out of the North. Temperatures are expected to be around 27.83°C (82°F) during the day, with a low of 24.42°C (76°F) at night.

How This Affects the Fish:

Bass Fishing: With the lake level lower than usual, bass are likely to be concentrated in areas with remaining vegetation and structure. The light rain might encourage some activity, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. Focus on areas near Kissimmee River and the shoals. Use topwater lures early and switch to soft plastics as the day progresses.

Crappie Fishing: Crappie will be holding tight to submerged structure. With the rain, they might move a bit shallower. Minnows and jigs around bridge pilings and submerged trees are your best bet.

Bluegill and Shellcracker: These panfish will be active in the shallows, especially around lily pads and grass lines. Crickets and worms are always a good choice.

Captain Joe’s Tips for Today

Given the current conditions, I’d recommend focusing on areas with good cover. The lower water levels have concentrated the fish, so finding those spots is key. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different lures and techniques until you find what they’re biting on. And remember, patience is key out here on Okeechobee!

Tight lines and happy fishing!

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – September 9th, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily fishing report for Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to tell you what’s bitin’ and what ain’t.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels

As of today, September 9th, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is at 12.82 feet. That’s down a bit from yesterday (12.75 feet) and significantly lower than last year (14.52 feet) and two years ago (15.41 feet). We’re about 1.62 feet below the period of record average. Keep an eye on those navigation depths, especially if you’re runnin’ a bigger boat. Route 1 is sittin’ around 6.76 feet and Route 2 is about 4.96 feet.

Weather Impact on Fishing

The forecast for today calls for light rain. The wind is comin’ out of the Southeast at about 7 mph with gusts up to 12 mph. The high for today is around 88 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 75.

Here’s how this weather might impact your fishing:

Bass Fishing: With the lake level relatively low, bass are likely to be concentrated around remaining vegetation and structure. The light rain and moderate winds could make for a good topwater bite early in the morning. Focus on areas with hydrilla, reeds, and Kissimmee grass. Look for areas where the wind is pushing baitfish.

Crappie Fishing: Crappie will be holding around deeper structure and submerged vegetation. With the rain, they may move up shallower. Try jigging around bridge pilings, or drifting minnows in open water.

Bluegill Fishing: Bluegill will be bedding in the shallows. Look for them around lily pads and reeds. Crickets and worms are always a good bet. The light rain shouldn’t deter them too much.

Inflows and Outflows

Total Inflows into the lake are around 7407 cfs, with the S65E structure contributing the most at 4626 cfs. Outflows are currently unavailable due to missing data.

Captain Joe’s Tip of the Day

Don’t be afraid to experiment with your presentation. The fish can be finicky, so try different baits, retrieves, and depths until you find what they want. And always, always, wear your life jacket!

Tight lines, y’all!

– Captain Joe

+ Flow Due to lockages is computed utilizing average daily headwater and
tailwater along with total number of lockages for the day to calculate
a volume which is then converted to an average discharge in cfs.
++ Preferred flow is determined from either the spillway discharge or the below flow meter daily

(I) - Flows preceeded by "I" signify an instantaneous
flow computed from the single value reported for the day
______________________________________________________________________________

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – September 8, 2025 – By Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Let’s get right to it – the lake’s been changing, and that means the fish are too.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels

As of today, September 8, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s elevation is at 12.75 feet NGVD. That’s down from last year’s 14.51 feet and even further from the year before at 15.34 feet. We’re also sitting 1.67 feet below the period of record average. The lake level has dropped 0.03 feet since yesterday.

Navigation depths are Route 1: 6.69′ and Route 2: 4.89′.

Inflows and Outflows

Inflows are at 6050 cfs, with the S65E contributing the most at 4419 cfs. Outflows are currently unavailable due to missing discharge data for S77 and S308.

Weather Impact on Fishing

We’re looking at some rain today. The forecast calls for heavy intensity rain. The wind will be light, coming from the north. The high is forecast to be around 85 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 75.

Fishing Outlook

With the lake level continuing to drop and the rain coming in, here’s how I see it affecting the fishing:

Bass Fishing

The falling water is concentrating the bass in the deeper areas and around any remaining vegetation. Focus on areas near the Kissimmee River and the edges of the grass lines. With the rain, topwater baits early in the morning could be productive. Try flipping jigs and worms later in the day as the rain continues. Look for bass near structure where they can ambush prey. The bass fishing tips page has more information.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie will be holding tight to submerged structure and vegetation. Minnows and jigs are your best bet. Look for them in the deeper canals and around bridge pilings. The rain might make them a bit more active, so don’t be afraid to move around and find them. Check out our crappie fishing guide for more details.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill fishing should be decent around the lily pads and grass lines. Crickets and worms are always a good choice. The rain might stir up some insects, making for a good bite. Bluegill fishing information is available on the site.

Catfish Fishing

Catfish will be active with the rain. Fish the bottom with stink baits, cut bait, or nightcrawlers. Focus on the deeper holes and channels. The catfish fishing page has more information.

Captain Joe’s Tip of the Day

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different baits and techniques. The fish are always changing their habits, so you need to be adaptable. And remember, a bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work!

Tight lines, y’all!

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report: Water Levels, Weather, and What’s Biting!

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, comin’ at ya from the Big O! Let’s dive right into what’s happenin’ on Lake Okeechobee. The fish are bitin’, but you gotta know where to find ’em!

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels – September 7, 2025

As of September 7, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is at 12.72 feet (NGVD). Now, that’s the official elevation, but what does that mean for you, the angler? Well, compared to last year on the same date (14.47 feet), we’re sittin’ about 1.75 feet lower. And compared to two years ago (15.34 feet), we’re a whole 2.62 feet lower. That’s a significant difference, folks! This lower water level concentrates the fish, but also makes ’em a little more finicky. Gotta use your noodle!

The lake’s average elevation for this time of year (based on the 1965-2007 period of record) is 14.39 feet. So, we’re currently 1.67 feet below that historical average. Keep that in mind when you’re plannin’ your trip.

Inflows and Outflows

Currently, total inflows are at 5073 cfs (cubic feet per second), with the S65E structure contributing the most at 4254 cfs. Total outflows are a measly 75 cfs. The lake is definitely receivin’ more water than it’s lettin’ out, but it’s a slow process.

Weather Forecast and Fishing Impact

Now, let’s talk about the weather, ’cause that’s gonna play a big role in how the fish behave. Here’s what the weatherman’s predictin’ for the next few days:

September 8, 2025: Light rain, with temperatures between 75°F and 82°F (23.9°C – 27.95°C). Wind from the Southeast (156 degrees) at about 10 mph (4.5 m/s), with gusts up to 18 mph (7.97 m/s).

September 9, 2025: Heavy intensity rain, with temperatures between 74°F and 91°F (23.36°C – 32.65°C). Wind from the South (183 degrees) at about 17 mph (7.63 m/s), with gusts up to 22 mph (10.04 m/s).

September 10, 2025: Moderate rain, with temperatures between 74°F and 90°F (23.27°C – 32.15°C). Wind from the Northeast (56 degrees) at about 9 mph (4 m/s), with gusts up to 17 mph (7.51 m/s).

September 11, 2025: Moderate rain, with temperatures between 76°F and 90°F (24.56°C – 32.43°C). Wind from the Northeast (38 degrees) at about 9 mph (4.14 m/s), with gusts up to 18 mph (8.23 m/s).

September 12, 2025: Heavy intensity rain, with temperatures between 74°F and 87°F (23.38°C – 30.25°C). Wind from the North (11 degrees) at about 11 mph (5 m/s), with gusts up to 17 mph (7.42 m/s).

September 13, 2025: Moderate rain, with temperatures between 73°F and 85°F (22.99°C – 29.74°C). Wind from the North (18 degrees) at about 7 mph (3.21 m/s), with gusts up to 15 mph (6.77 m/s).

September 14, 2025: Light rain, with temperatures between 71°F and 88°F (21.59°C – 31.25°C). Wind from the East (75 degrees) at about 8 mph (3.65 m/s), with gusts up to 15 mph (6.72 m/s).

September 15, 2025: Moderate rain, with temperatures between 75°F and 89°F (24°C – 31.81°C). Wind from the East (73 degrees) at about 9 mph (3.84 m/s), with gusts up to 14 mph (6.22 m/s).

With all this rain comin’, expect the water to be a bit murky. The bass will likely be holdin’ tighter to cover, so flip those reeds and grass lines! The crappie might be a little scattered, but they’ll still be schooled up near structure. Use your electronics to find ’em!

Fishing Forecast: What to Target

Bass: With the lower water and incoming rain, focus on areas with heavy vegetation. Topwater baits early and late in the day can be productive. During the day, switch to flipping jigs and worms around reeds and hydrilla.

Crappie: Look for crappie around submerged structure and bridge pilings. Minnows and jigs are always a good bet. With the stained water, try using brighter colored jigs.

Bluegill/Shellcracker: These panfish will be hangin’ around the edges of the grass flats. Crickets and worms under a bobber are the ticket.

Captain Joe’s Hot Tips

Water Clarity: Pay attention to water clarity. If it’s too muddy, move to areas with clearer water, even if it means travelin’ a bit.

Bait Presentation: With the lower water, subtle presentations are key. Don’t be afraid to downsize your baits and use lighter line.

Listen to the Locals: Stop by the local bait shops and see what they’re sayin’. They’re always a good source of information.

Alright folks, that’s the scoop from Lake Okeechobee. Tight lines and remember to keep your hooks sharp and your stories tall! Captain Joe, over and out!
