Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – September 2nd, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’ve seen it all. Let’s get right to it.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels and Conditions

As of today, September 2nd, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is sitting at 12.51 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from last year (14.30 feet) and two years ago (15.40 feet). We’re also below the period of record average of 14.25 feet by about 1.74 feet.

Here’s a quick look at the inflows and outflows:

  • Total Inflows: 3746 cfs
  • Total Outflows: 283 cfs

Looks like we’re still seeing more water coming in than going out, but the lake level is still dropping slightly. Keep an eye on that. The lake level is determined by averaging readings from L001, L005, L006, LZ40, S4, S352, S308, and S133.

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

The forecast for today, September 3rd, calls for rain. We’re looking at about 8.2mm of rain with winds coming from the east-northeast at around 3.93 m/s (about 8.8 mph), gusting up to 7.77 m/s (around 17.4 mph). The temperature is expected to be around 29.63°C (85.3°F) during the day, with a low of 24.42°C (76°F).

How’s this gonna affect the fishin’? Well…

Bass Fishing

With the rain and slightly cooler temperatures (relatively speaking, it’s still Florida!), the bass fishing could pick up a bit. Look for those bass to be holding around structure in the Kissimmee River and near the grass lines. Topwater baits early in the morning could be productive, especially around lily pads. As the day goes on, switch to flipping jigs or using soft plastics around submerged vegetation. The key is to find where they’re hiding from the sun and rain.

Crappie Fishing

The crappie might be a bit more scattered with the rain. Try fishing around deeper structure near the channels. Minnows and jigs are always a good bet. With the lake level where it is, finding those brush piles and submerged trees will be key to finding the crappie.

Other Species

Don’t forget about the bluegill and shellcracker! They’ll be hanging around the edges of the vegetation, especially after the rain washes in some fresh food. Crickets and worms are your best bet for these fellas.

General Tips for Lake Okeechobee Fishing

  • Stay Hydrated: Even with the rain, it’s still hot out there. Drink plenty of water.
  • Check Your Gear: Make sure your lines are good and your reels are spooled.
  • Be Safe: Keep an eye on the weather and let someone know where you’re going.

That’s all for today’s report, folks. Tight lines and happy fishin’!
