Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to give you the lowdown on what’s bitin’ and what ain’t.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels and Conditions

Let’s start with the lake level. As of today, August 12, 2025, Lake Okeechobee is sitting at 12.19 feet NGVD. That’s down a hair from yesterday (0.01 feet). We’re also sitting 1.75 feet below where we were last year and 3.15 feet below two years ago. Keep an eye on these levels, folks, as they greatly impact where the fish are holdin’.

   * On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
     Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
     On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
     10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used
     as the Lake Okeechobee Elevation.
     On 05 November 2010,  Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
     mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level.
     On 09 May 2011,  Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage
     mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level due to isolation of S135 from low lake levels.
     Today Lake Okechobee elevation is determined from the 4 Int & 4 Edge stations

Weather Forecast and Fishing Predictions

The weather forecast for today, August 13th, calls for overcast skies and a breeze. We’re looking at winds around 8.5 mph, gusting up to 16.6 mph. Temperatures will be warm, with a high around 91°F and a low around 83°F. It’s August in Florida, so expect humidity!

Bass Fishing

With the lake level where it’s at, bass will likely be holding in the Kissimmee grass and around any submerged structure they can find. The overcast conditions should help the bite throughout the day. Topwater lures early and late in the day could be productive. As the sun gets higher, switch to flipping jigs and worms in the heavier cover. Look for areas with moving water, even slight currents can concentrate the fish. Remember to target areas near the edges of the grass lines.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie fishing can be tough this time of year, but it’s still doable. Look for them suspended around deeper structure, like bridge pilings or submerged trees. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet. With the overcast skies, they might be a little shallower than usual. Try trolling slowly to cover more ground and find where they’re holding.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill fishing should be decent. They’ll be bedding in the shallows, especially around lily pads and reeds. Crickets and worms are the classic baits, and for good reason – they work! A light breeze can help drift your bait naturally. Early morning and late afternoon are prime times.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be a decent day on the Big O. Remember to stay hydrated, wear your sunscreen, and keep an eye on the weather. Tight lines and happy fishin’!
