10/21/2024 Weekly Okeechobee Fishing Report

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, and let me tell ya, the fishing's been a little bit... *peculiar* this week on Lake Okeechobee. As y'all know, I was born and raised on this lake, so I've seen it all, from flooded banks to dry spells. And this week has been a bit of a mixed bag.

The water level is sitting at 16.03 feet, which is actually higher than last year this time (16.29 feet) and a whole lot higher than 2 years ago (15.45 feet). That's good news for those looking for some decent water depth, but it's something to keep in mind when it comes to fishing.

Here's the lowdown on the week's weather and how it's been affecting those fish:

Monday: Mild and breezy, with a high of 84 degrees and winds around 10 mph. A good day to get out on the lake, but keep an eye on the wind as it could pick up in the afternoon.

Tuesday: It's gonna be a scorcher, folks! High of 90 degrees and not much wind. The fish might be a bit sluggish during the hottest part of the day. Head out early or late for the best bite.

Wednesday: A bit of a cool down, with a high of 82 degrees and a chance of a few showers in the afternoon. The fish might be a bit more active with the cooler temps and the rain.

Thursday: Sunshine and mild temperatures, with a high of 85 degrees and light winds. Perfect for fishing!

Friday: Another hot one, with a high of 91 degrees and light winds. Remember to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade.

Saturday: We're looking at a high of 86 degrees with a chance of rain. Those showers might make for some exciting fishing action.

Sunday: Mild and breezy with a high of 83 degrees and winds around 15 mph. The wind will be a factor, so be sure to pick a sheltered spot or adjust your fishing techniques accordingly.

With the water level being up a bit, you're more likely to find the bass hanging out in the shallower areas, especially along the edges of the lake. Don't forget about those canals and ditches, too. They're often full of bass looking for a bite to eat.

As for the other fish, the crappie have been biting pretty good in the deeper water, especially around submerged vegetation. And the catfish are always hungry, especially around those bridges and docks. Catfish love those shady spots.

Remember, fishing is all about patience and adaptability. You never know what you're going to find on Lake Okeechobee. But with a little luck and a whole lot of skill, you're sure to have a good time out on the water.

As always, I encourage you to practice good stewardship and respect the beauty of this amazing lake. Keep your lines clean, your gear organized, and always dispose of your trash properly. And remember, folks, it's not just about catching fish, it's about enjoying the experience!

Tight lines and good fishing, y'all!

Captain Joe
