10/19/2024 Weekly Okeechobee Fishing Report

Well, howdy folks! Captain Joe here, and let's dive into the latest happenings on Lake Okeechobee.

This week, the lake level is sitting pretty at 15.98 feet, a bit higher than last year's 16.28 feet, but a touch higher than the 2-year average of 15.40 feet. That's good news for us anglers, as it means plenty of water to play in!

And speaking of play, let's take a peek at what the weather has in store for us this week. Here’s what we’ve got from the forecast:

Now, that's a mixed bag of weather conditions, isn't it? We've got some sunshine, some rain, and even some wind. But don't worry, we'll adapt and conquer those fishing conditions! The good news is that with a little bit of wind, the bass will be chasing baitfish around, especially the shallows around the edges of the lake.

Here's a quick rundown of what you can expect this week:

  • Bass: You'll find bass in the shallows, especially where there's some wind to push bait fish around. The wind will be a key factor, so try your luck in the windward areas. Try using top-water lures like buzzbaits and frogs, or try some shaky heads or jigs just below the surface.
  • Crappie: Crappie will be hanging out in the deeper water, around the lily pads and reeds. And don’t forget to look for those submerged treetops for some real fun. Try using small jigs in natural colors, or try some minnows. Have some fun with it!
  • Bluegill: Bluegill are a sure bet for fun, and you'll find them in the shallows, around the lily pads and reeds. Use crickets or worms as bait, and have fun catching your dinner!

So, there you have it, folks! Remember to check the weather before heading out, and make sure to wear your life preserver, even if you’re only going a short distance from shore. And don't forget to use proper fishing techniques and practice catch and release to ensure we have a healthy lake for years to come. Have a great week of fishing!
